Reached Dalhousie in the Hunt of Cold Weather in Summer

It was the month of July 2024, the weather was as hot as it could get. I along with my brother were at a village near Gurdaspur for an event. Out of our curiosity we thought about visiting the calmer and pleasant parts of Punjab nearby. Dunera, a suburb of Pathankot situated just 35 kilometers before Dalhousie came to mind.

Our Dalhousie Hotel Room View

We were riding TVS 160cc Apache Motorcyle, which is a semi sports bike. One thing lead to the other and within few minnutes we started our journey for the Mountains. After crossing beautiful locations on our path, within a few hours we reached Dunera.

The weather of Dunera was no different than the weather we were experiencing back home in Amritsar and Gurdaspur. But, the mountains made up for the time we spent riding. However, the urge of cold weather kept pushing us! And we were just 30 Kms away from Dalhousie.

After a cup of tea we decided to go ahead with what we were riding for, that is Cold Weather. We gave other thoughts a big pause and decided to go to Dalhousie.

Finally Reached Dalhousie

After about one hour, we reached Dalhousie! The places we came across in the last 20 Kms patch on the way were simply mesmersing. We were litteraly driving through the clouds. And, finally as we approached Banikhet, a small town just 9 kilometers before Dalhousie, we started experiencing the cold waves! And it felt so good inside, as the hot weather had been punishing us from last few months.

By the time we reached Dalhousie, we still had enough sun light to enjoy the surroundings and the locations. At around 5:30pm we had meals at Sharma Restaurant near Mall Road. We ordered Paneer Bhurji and Chapatis for food. At the end of our meals, we had tea and set out to look for a hotel or AirBnb for the night stay.

For the most part, we stayed near Gandhi Chowk and Mall Road, as that is the most tourist friendly area of Dalhousie to stay at.

Finding an Affordable Hotel Room in Dalhousie

Hotel rooms in Summers tend to go at a high price! But for us, it was not the case, as the summer season had already passed and it was a Rainy seaeson in the monutains in July. Tourists tend to avoid mountains during monsoon. This results in low tourist turnout and reduction in price of hotel rooms.

The same room which goes for around ₹4000 becomes easily available around ₹1000. We paid ₹1100 for the hotel room that had an amazing valley view as shown in the image above early morining video below:

We were lucky enough to have found this nice hotel that gave us around 75% discount. The room had all the amenities right from Wifi to a decent size washroom and a king size double bed. If you are interested in knowing the Hotel we booked, just message me on Instagram or Twitter.

Our stay at the hotel was really nice, the only issue was getting out of the hotel room early in the morning. I will cover that part in my next blog post, so do keep an eye.

Cheers!
