A memorable trip to Lonavala, Maharashtra

Same time last year, I was in Lonavala, an extremely popular hill station in Maharashtra. In this post, I will be sharing all the important information that will come handy to those who are planning to visit this beautiful destination!

Trip to Lonavala hill station in maharashtra

How to reach Lonavala?

Lonavala is around 80 kms away from Mumbai and 60 kms away from Pune. This hill station is well connected to Mumbai and Pune through both rail and road networks. It all depends how you want to go there. The most preferred route is Rail network, and I chose exactly that!

I started my journey from Mumbai, took a train from Dadar station. Reached Lonavala in about 2:30 hours. From Pune, it takes about 1:30 hours to reach Lonavala, I have used both the routes :)

If you are coming from Mumbai, make sure to look for a window seat as the view on the way is mesmerizing and you can't afford to miss it! Below is the one of the pictures I took on the train:

Worth Seeing in Lonavala

This beautiful hill station has a lot to offer to the tourists. Not just the scenic beauty, but the food, affectionate people and pleasant weather, everything is beautiful. Following are some of the worth seeing places in Lonavala I have been to and recommend my readers:

  • Lonavala Lake
  • Bhushi Dam
  • Karla Caves
  • Rajmachi Point
  • Della Adventure Park
  • Sunil's Celebrity Wax Museum
  • Narayani Dham

I don't quite remember rest of the places I visited during my 2 days of stay in Lonavala. If you have been to this amazing destination, do comment away the places I have missed.

What is the best time to visit Lonavala?

The best time to visit Lonavala according to my own experience is Monsoon season. The monsoon season starts in June and ends in September. Having said that, due to hills and greenery, the weather of Lonavala is pleasant throughout the year.

During monsoon, the waterfalls, dams and lakes in Lonavala become active. That is the very reason people prefer going to this hill station in rainy season. Therefore, its highly recommended that you prefer this time of the year to visit Lonavala.

Hows the food in Lonavala?

The food in Lonavala much like anywhere in Maharastra is very tasty. I just loved the Misal Pav, vada pav and kothimbir vadi. The restaurants in Lonavala offer all types of cuisines, right from South Indian to Punjabi.

The best part is, unlike many other popular travel destinations, the rates of almost all the food items are very cheap. So, eat your favorite food without worrying much about the bill :)
One of the things you will notice in Lonavala is Magan Lal Chikki. They are everywhere, consider trying, the Chikki tastes very good. I believe it is made with Jaggery Syrup, Til and Peanuts.

How far is Lonavala from Khandala?

Khandala is around 5 kms away from Lonavala. One can take an auto rickshaw or bus from railway station to reach there.

I did go to Khandala as well, this article will become lengthy if I went on to write the whole experience here. Lets save this for my upcoming posts for now and keep it focused on Lonavala.

Here's my Lonavala video that covers Dams, Lakes, waterfalls:

Hope you find this article informative! Let me know in comments if you have any questions regarding Lonvala, I would love to answer them with best of the knowledge I have!
